Power to Be Witnesses

Acts 1:8 (NKJV)

"You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me."

The Holy Spirit gives believers power for a clear purpose: to bear witness to Jesus. His power is not intended to make us appear spiritually impressive or important. It is given so that ordinary people can represent Christ with courage, wisdom, love, and supernatural effectiveness.

The first disciples knew Jesus personally. They heard His teaching and witnessed His resurrection, yet they were still instructed to wait for the Spirit's empowerment. Knowledge and personal experience were essential, but the mission before them required power that human confidence and natural ability could not provide.

A witness tells what they have seen, heard, and experienced. We testify about who Jesus is, what He accomplished through His death and resurrection, and how His grace has changed our lives. A sincere testimony does not need to be dramatic to be powerful; it needs to be truthful and centered on Christ.

Many believers remain silent because of fear. We may fear rejection, difficult questions, or the opinions of others. The Holy Spirit gives courage and wisdom. He also prepares hearts, arranges opportunities, and reminds us of truth. Our responsibility is to remain available and willing to speak.

You do not need to know the answer to every question before sharing your faith. Be honest when you do not know something, remain grounded in Scripture, and keep learning. Speak with gentleness rather than pressure. The goal is not to win an argument but to faithfully introduce people to Jesus.

Ask the Spirit to empower your witness today. Let your conduct support your words, and let your words explain the hope revealed through your life. God can use a simple conversation, offered in love and obedience, to change someone's eternal direction.

Reflection

What fear most often prevents me from speaking openly and lovingly about Jesus?

Application

Prepare a short account of how Christ has changed your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you an opportunity to share it with someone.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, fill me with the Holy Spirit and give me power to be a faithful witness. Replace fear with courage and help me speak about Jesus with truth, humility, wisdom, and love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
