Be Grateful

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV)

"In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

Gratitude is a response to the goodness and grace of God. It helps us recognize His gifts and acknowledge that we depend upon Him. Even when life contains unanswered questions, we can remember His love and thank Him for the ways He sustains us.

Paul calls believers to give thanks in every circumstance. This does not require us to describe evil as good or pretend that suffering is painless. We can grieve honestly while still acknowledging that God is present and worthy of our trust.

Our deepest reason for thanksgiving is what we have received through Jesus Christ. Through Him, we have forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and the hope of eternal life. These gifts remain precious even when other parts of life feel uncertain.

We can easily overlook everyday mercies while concentrating on what is missing. Food, shelter, a helpful conversation, an opportunity to learn, or strength for another day deserve our attention. Gratitude grows as we deliberately notice what we might otherwise take for granted.

Jesus once healed ten men with leprosy, but only one returned to thank Him. That man recognized the mercy he had received and turned back to express his gratitude. His response reminds us to return to the Giver rather than become absorbed only in the gift.

Thankfulness should also shape our relationships. Expressing appreciation honours the people through whom God has helped us. A sincere word of thanks can encourage someone whose care, labour, or generosity has gone unnoticed.

Pause today and remember God's goodness. Bring Him your requests, but also name the mercies already present in your life. As you practise gratitude, allow it to deepen your worship and make you more attentive to the kindness of others.

Reflection

What mercy from God or kindness from another person have I recently taken for granted?

Application

Read Luke 17:11–19. Write down five specific reasons for thanksgiving, pray over them, and send a sincere message of appreciation to someone who has helped you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy and the gift of salvation through Jesus. Forgive me for overlooking Your goodness and the kindness of others. Help me remain thankful in every season and express my appreciation through words and actions. In Jesus' name, Amen.
