Consecration Before Visitation

Joshua 3:5 (NKJV)

"Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you."

Before the Israelites witnessed God open the Jordan River, Joshua instructed them to consecrate themselves. God was about to do something they could not accomplish through their own strength, but preparation came before manifestation. Their outward preparation reflected an inward decision to turn their attention and affection toward God.

Consecration is the intentional surrender of our entire lives to Him. It is the prayer that says, "Lord, I belong to You. My time, plans, relationships, possessions, abilities, dreams, and future are Yours." It is not an attempt to purchase God's favor or earn His presence. It is the appropriate response of people who have encountered His holiness, mercy, and love.

We often desire a powerful visitation from God without welcoming the preparation that may come before it. We want His wonders but resist His correction. We want fresh anointing but hesitate to surrender old habits. We ask God to fill us while continuing to hold tightly to things that leave little room for Him.

God's correction is not rejection. When He exposes sin, misplaced priorities, unforgiveness, or unhealthy attachments, He is preparing us to carry what He desires to release. Consecration may require an honest confession, a restored relationship, a change in direction, or a renewed commitment to prayer.

There are seasons when God works quietly before He works visibly. He may be strengthening our character, purifying our motives, or teaching us obedience before opening the next door. We should not despise these hidden seasons of preparation.

When God visits a consecrated people, they are prepared to recognize His voice and respond to His direction. Their focus is not merely on experiencing wonders but on honoring the God who performs them.

Perhaps God is cleansing your heart today because He intends to entrust you with something greater tomorrow. Welcome His preparation and give Him your complete surrender.

Reflection

What might God be asking me to surrender in preparation for a deeper work of His Spirit?

Application

Spend time in quiet examination before God. Write down anything He asks you to surrender and respond with specific, practical obedience.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I consecrate myself completely to You. Search me, cleanse me, and prepare me for everything You desire to do. Remove every distraction, divided affection, and hidden compromise. Make my heart a dwelling place for Your presence and a vessel for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
