"And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down."
Before fire fell on Mount Carmel, Elijah repaired the altar of the Lord. The broken altar represented a nation whose worship had been neglected and whose devotion had become divided. Restoration began when what was broken was deliberately rebuilt.
The altar represents worship, surrender, sacrifice, and communion with God. In our lives, the altar may become broken when prayer is abandoned, Scripture is neglected, compromise is tolerated, or other priorities quietly take God's place. The decline may be gradual, but its effects eventually become visible.
Repair begins with returning. We acknowledge what has been neglected and rebuild patterns that keep our hearts near God. This may mean restoring daily prayer, renewing family worship, returning to regular fellowship, making peace with someone, or removing an influence that continually draws us away from obedience.
Elijah did not create the fire; he prepared the altar. In the same way, we cannot manufacture revival, but we can remove what dishonors God and offer ourselves to Him again. We prepare through repentance, surrender, worship, and faithful obedience, trusting God to send what only He can give.
Do not despise the quiet work of rebuilding. Every stone of obedience matters. A brief but sincere daily prayer can become the beginning of a restored spiritual life. A humble apology can reopen a relationship. One decision to return to Scripture can establish a pattern that strengthens future generations.
God is not asking you to pretend the altar was never broken. He invites you to repair it through grace. Begin where you are, use what you have, and return wholeheartedly. As the altar is restored, your life becomes ready to receive and faithfully carry God's holy fire.
